  • More "official" reports are coming out concerning Malcolm Young. His dementia is apparently the result of a blood clot in his brain from a stroke suffered earlier this year. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer's Disease - there is no cure for most types of dementia.
  • Black Sabbath have announced they will do on final album, along with one final tour. The Kool-Aid never tasted so good......
  • IF this is true - they skipped the Metroplex on their last tour for '13' so I would expect a local date and how about getting Bill Ward back on the kits?
  • Phil Spector, once a musical genius - but a genuinely bad person, is not doing well in prison. He lost his voice nine months ago and is described as frail and is being housed in a prison health facility.

Friday Updates

  • Bob Seger is set to tour and hit Big D at an undisclosed venue. I like a few of his songs but for me personally his concert would be a beating. I would have to leave the arena when "Turn the Page" came on.....
  • Rumours are starting to circulate that Malcolm Young is in a specialized private care facility for dementia. The band has yet to release an official statement.

I bookmarked this list a while back - it has grown to 555 bands since then. It is hard to adjust the rankings when a list starts getting this many votes but let your voices be heard!

Mid-Week Updates

  • And the Yard of the Month award in Austin goes to King Coffey, drummer for the Butthole Surfers. Haven't heard much from them in a while but I think they are still technically together.
  • Unfortunately it looks as if Malcolm Young has officially "retired" from AC/DC. This is obviously due to the illness he is fighting. In this day and age of electronic media it is hard to believe that exactly what he is fighting has been kept under wraps.
  • When you listen to an AC/DC record/song just remember one thing - besides the "guitar solo" think about who's exact guitar you are hearing. The Highway to Hell intro is a great example.....
  • L.A Guns has apparently booted bassist Scott Griffin from the band. Originally reported as a mutual decision, Scott disagrees.
  • With that being said Scott has issued a few comments, among them the statement that he knows he wasn't an "original member" - Are you kidding me? Who really is from a band that spawned Guns N Roses, two different versions of the band itself, future members of Faster Pussycat, and has included members from a plethora of LA based bands.
  • John Mellencamp will perform a 'intimate' live show on AXS TV this weekend if you are so inclined to view. I believe he performed the first concert He performed the second concert ever at AAC upon it's opening - I was in attendance of course.

Confusing Updates

  • So you can catch Motley Crue again the the DFW area. IF you own a modern or classic Dodge Challenger, Charger or Viper. It's basically free but you have to put up a $100 down to register your vehicle for a car show at the Gas Monkey, otherwise it is a "private" event. http://www.dodgerocksgasmonkey.com/

  • I couldn't help it - I had to stop and send an email to find out...
  • This is also the same day as Chivefest - think The Chive staff could talk Motley into an appearance? Now if they are fans of The Chive we are talking...

On this Day....

  • Ace Frehley is just flat not happy with the Kiss situation, including Tommy Thayer. He got one thing right - they should have different make up ala' The Fox & The Ankh Warrior/Wizard.
  • I think it is about time to check out Ace on his upcoming tour if he hits locally. Which one of my friends tried to get me to attend the last time he came through.
  • Allegedly the new Slipknot drummer is......Jay Weinberg. Recognize the last name?
  • So initially The Chivefest Dallas date's lineup was not appealing at all. But after further review it might not be too shabby - I was just hoping for some local icon.
  • Motley Crue's final show (of the "final tour" mind you) - the infamous Whiskey a Go Go on their 35th anniversary.
  • So women didn't like Robin Thicke's last album because it was about his ex-girlfriend, but they like Adele's because it was about her ex-boyfriend(s)? I admittedly have heard little of each however.
  • An excerpt below from an article on Kanye - I have read one theory on his antics - he is just fucking with our heads...
"The temptation to believe West is some kind of supremely  ignorant,  pig-headed, egomaniacal blowhard tool is to have missed the point.
Do we have to spell it out for you? This is an ongoing attempt by the artist  to perform the three public miracles required for sainthood.
Having already raised the dead by elevating Kim Kardashian from reality TV sex-tape trailer trash to Vogue cover-girl, West now intends to cure the lame, blind, dumb, maimed and all the others mentioned in the Bible as having had the special restorative attention of Jesus Christ. Doth he not call his tour Yeezus?
Despite his failure to get disabled Australian fans to cast off their affliction, stand up and walk, West should at least be commended for trying.
Other miracles have been attempted.  During West's marriage to Kim Kardashian,  for example, eyewitnesses reported that the hip hop hero attempted to turn Evian water into Cristal for his wedding guests. Thoughtful!
Various celebrity magazines have reported that Kim Kardashian says she and West would like to have another child;  in a rather telling choice of words, the overinflated human bouncy castle has said, "It's all in God's hands."

Historical Updates

  • Jeff Lynne and ELO performed their first concert in 28 years at London's Hyde Park. After an aborted 2000 tour the rumors are swirling about future shows. This is on my bucket list.....
  • The Doors self produced "lost" documentary 'Feast of Friends' is set to be released on DVD/Blu-Ray later this year. The 1968 feature was never really finished but will be released in some form or fashion in November.
  • DRI is set to release their first new music since 1995, an EP. DRI has remained active on the touring circuit.
  • Cat Stevens will play several shows in North America, his first since 1976, hitting Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago and the Canadian city of Toronto.
  • And this week in Rock History:
    • 30 years ago  the Mark II lineup of Deep Purple reunited and released Perfect Strangers, certainly on par with anything else this lineup released.
    • 35 years ago the No Nukes shows were held at MSG in New York, followed by a triple album release and the compilation concert film of the same name.
    • 35 years ago Quadrophenia was released. As the film was being prepared (1978) Keith Moon passed away overdosing on a sedative prescribed for alcohol withdrawal.

Hold the Presses!

Apparently Robert Plant has split with Patty Griffin and has returned to Great Britain along the Welsh border. AND apparently the split came last year, the same year they were allegedly married! Although they were not legally married it was assumed there was some sort of consolation between the two of them - the split was just confirmed late last August.

Hey he snuck into Austin under the radar, and now he has snuck right back out.....

More here....

Another Awesome Dave Grohl Post

Friday Updates

  • Glen Campbell (one time touring member of the Beach Boys) will record one last song in the studio. The Rhinestone Cowboy is currently resides in a care facility for treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
  • Sleaze Rock fans - something worth your crowdsourcing funds.....

  • James Evans, the infamous Exodus lyrics poster, will now be represented by the Kentucky chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union in court to protect his First Amendment rights. But before that he must undergo a mental evaluation? Allegedly if he goes along with this the charges will be dropped. I am not sure if I would show up.....

Aribtrary Updates

  • Somehow, completely under my radar, the original Days of the New lineup has reunited and completely melted down, or at least frontman Travis Meeks, who has a substantial history of drug addiction, has. While onstage recently bassist Jesse Vest grabbed the mike from an incoherent Meeks and announced an end to the reunion. Meeks reportedly remained onstage for a period, roamed the audience and yelled at merchandise vendors. Geez. More on the attempted reunion here.
  • Did you know Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion I & II, released in 1991, released singles and videos for three years through 1994 with both albums eventually being certified 7x Platinum in 1997? Appetite was certified 18x Platinum - in 2008!
  • List of Robert Plant bands and collaborations just for the hell of it:
    • "Solo" Band. Featuring Phil Collins on his first two releases and Robbie Blount through Shaken 'N Stirred - 1982-1993
    • Honey Drippers  - 1984
    • Page & Plant - 1994-1998
    • Priory of Brion - 1999-2000
    • Strange Sensation - 2001-2007
    • Allison Krauss collaboration 2007-2008
    • Band of Joy 2010-2011. Featuring Patty Griffin, his now current wife, both residing in the Great State of Texas.
    • Sensational Space Shifters (current band).

Mid Week Updates

  • In an interview with Eddie Trunk Micheal Anthony details his split from the VH boys, who he hasn't spoke to in at least TEN YEARS. I don't think Micheal is to worried about it considering his continued success with Sammy, but he is disappointed in the situation. How long did they "hate" Diamond Dave before the (second) reunion??
  • Told you so - Robert Plant would like to work with Jack White. He even has a song in mind.
  • AND the Zeppelin camp have officially hired a lawyer to represent them in a lawsuit brought against them by the Spirit camp including the estate of Randy California, who passed in '97. Stairway was once a staple of FM rock radio but oh how things have changed since then.
  • I have updated the list below and removed anything that has been resolved or not really applicable anymore. Sometimes you hear of the initial lawsuit but often don't hear anything concerning resolution for long periods of time. I will leave a couple of tongue in cheek ones on there however. And alas - Queensryche, the band who gave this list it's inspiration is being removed......

Dueling Band List
    • Spirit vs. LED ZEPPELIN
    • Glenn Danzig vs. The Misfits
    • Wu-Tang Clan vs. Wu-Tang Clan
    • Black Flag vs. Flag
    • Oren Kaplan vs. Eugene Hutz (Gogol Bordello)
    • The Turtles vs. SiriusXM

Friday Updates

  • Metallica has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the only band to play all seven continents in one year with their performance in Antarctica in December of last year.
  • There is a series of Johnny Winter tribute shows and memorial concert announced - and none of them are anywhere near Texas. WTF.
  • IF Deep Purple happens to get elected to the RRHOF - they might just say forget it. And not to mention who gets inducted from which version?
  • So James Evans of Kentucky posted the lyrics to the Exodus song "Class Dismissed" on his Facebook page - and got arrested for terroristic threatening. There are a couple of idiots in the comments section as well. How many lyric song pages have this same song listed on them? I hope Exodus doesn't have the lyrics in their CD case as well.
  • So Deadmau5 has kindly reminded Disney that they used his music on their website without proper licensing. Let's see we want to use your music without permission to represent our character, Mickey Mouse, but don't wear those ears!!?!??

And here is your video proof!

Grab you some tissues and skip to the 3:15 mark....

Officially Only One Queensryche Updates

  • Legally there is now only one Queensryche. Geoff Tate performed his last show as "Queensryche" punctuating it by removing the TriRyche (which he can no longer use either) symbol from his belt buckle and bidding it adieu.
  • I have a feeling it's not really over but the other camp seems to be content with the situation keeping a very low profile.
  • I something I don't comment on very much - I think Kanye is completely delusional and is not in touch with the reality (ironic?) of the world around all of us. I know you can say this about a lot of famous (sic) individuals but he is off the deep end.
  • I think Disney might have got caught sleeping.
  • In news for two very underrated bands Faith No More have announced their first album in 18 years and Pepper Keenan is reuniting with Corrosion of Conformity.
  • More updates tomorrow!
