Thursday Updates

Since it has been a while we will lead off with - Queensryche News!

  • Once Geoff Tate's final tour as "Queensryche" ends he will officially rename his band 'Operation: Mindcrime'
  • I seem to remember Geoff on That Metal Show a season or two ago talking about some of his new music and how it sounded different - but he sure seems to be living in the past.
  • 10 Johnny Winter facts you didn't know. Including 'Johnny and Edgar Autumn' in DC comics Jonah Hex.
  • In one of the more plausible rock conspiracy theories Terry Rawlings has released an update of his book 'Who Killed Christopher Robin?' concerning the death, and possible murder, of Brian Jones.
  • Mark Slaughter is releasing a solo album!!! Said no one I know......

Tuesday Updates

  • Tim Alexander, drummer for Primus (and a few other bands), recently suffered a heart attack and yesterday had successful open heart surgery. A full recovery is expected. Good for Herb!
  • A tree planted in 2004 in Griffith Park in L.A. in memoriam of George Harrison has died as a result of insect infestation. Wait for it - yes it was beetles.
  • So Kerri Kasem filed a restraining order to keep Casey's body in Washington state for an autopsy - BUT - his second wife Jean had already had the body moved to Canada. Geez....
  • So I don't have tickets to any shows until November - that will have to be rectified soon.
  • Barring significant music news - See you next week!

Friday Updates

  • So that makes two "final tours" I have seen this year.
  • Motley Crue certainly put on a show - but the acoustics at Starplex just plain suck when compared to newer venues in the area - mainly Nokia and HOB. It is certainly going to influence my decisions about attending that venue in the future.
  • Alice Cooper put on a full fledged mini show - including a guillotine.....
  • After all these years - the Fort Worth Convention Center dome will be torn down after a new 12,000 seat Cultural District events center is completed south of Will Rogers for touring events. In turn the dome will be replaced by a "ballroom" for trade shows and other events. Hopefully the new event center will get more draws from some acts.....
  • Speaking of which, I haven't heard crap on The Ridglea Theater since it was "seized" buy the feds last month.

Mid-Week Updates

  • Tonight is the Motley Crue show at Starplex. It is unknown whether the "Cruecifly" drum roller coaster thingie will be there, but it has apparently only been used in arenas and not amphitheaters. Neverthless the reviews have improved since the opener.
  • Tommy Ramone passed away last weekend - he was the last of the original Ramone's lineup playing on the first three albums. 1,2,3,4 Cretins wanna hop some more.....
  • Robin Thicke's career is bombing abysmally.

Friday Updates

  • Here is my conspiracy theory - Jack White and Dave Grohl are secretly in a contest to see who can outdo each other.
  • That chick in the Zep shirt the other day, two posts below - I have officially dubbed her "Leg Zeppelin". I might make her the official mascot of this blog......
  • Tommy Lee's massive drum setup is too large for some venues - here's hoping Starplex can handle it.
  • According to Dave Davies Jimmy Page does NOT play the solo on "You Really Got Me" - Page denies it as well. I know it was always rumored but there you have it.
  • Malcolm Young is in the hospital seeking treatment - from what they won't say - but they hope to have him back. For now they continue on with his nephew Stevie in his place.
  • Cool article on R&R love triangles. If you are ever in a band just steal your buddies girlfriend - it makes for great songwriting.
  • In a total beatdown of epic proportions Garth Brooks has announced he is going to tour. Hopefully someone will be glad to attend with my significant other, with her approval of course, so I can avoid this situation.
  • John Spinks, guitarist and main songwriter for The Outfield, has passed on to the great MTV video bin in the sky. According to The Music's Over "Your Love" has been believed to have been sampled over 1000 times.

Mid - Week Updates

  • Apparently musicians love Sons of Anarchy - in addition to Marilyn Manson, the upcoming season will also now feature Courtney Love. Henry Rollins and Dave Navarro have also appeared in previous season(s) as well. There are a few other gems here if you are a fan....
  • Speaking of Courtney Happy Birthday! Now will you please shut up.....
  • Also born on this day Jack White and Bon Scott.
  • Mike Portnoy, apparently a huge Pink Floyd fan (imagine that), is not happy with "Pink Floyd" releasing a new album. Hey I really don't disagree with him due to the contents of the album, which are either leftovers from The Division Bell and/or from that era - but they do have the right to do such legally however.
  • If you happen to be reading this from the Toronto area police are requesting public assistance for locating a missing girl from the Vans Warped tour held on July 4th:
"Hannah Batty, 15, was last seen on Friday, July 4, 2014, at approximately 8 p.m., at Ontario Place [while attending a Vans Warped Tour concert].

Happy Fourth of July America!!

Completely Random Thursday Updates

  • Steve Walsh is leaving Kansas - that leaves original members at two after 41 years including a one year or so hiatus by the band.
  • Quiet Riot is releasing a new album -technically there are no "original" members left in the band, although current member Frankie Banali was part of the classic Metal Health lineup.
  • I think it is a matter of judgment of what you may call the "original lineup" - The Beatles are a perfect example. Yes Stu Sutcliffe and Pete Best were originally in the band but was it ever anything but the Fab Four? More insanity here.
  • Gregg Allman has canceled his solo tour - they will be lucky to make it to those final shows in October....
  • On this day in 1969 Brian Jones was found dead in his pool and in '71 Morrison was found dead in his bathtub - both controversial for their own reasons.
  • And tomorrow will be the anniversary of Steely Dan's 1974 gig  - they would not play live for another 18 years.
  • Motley Crue opened their "final tour" last night - set list below, and the show looks over the top...
    • ‘Motherf—er of the Year’
      ‘Wild Side’
      ‘Primal Scream’
      ‘Same Ol’ Situation (S.O.S.)’
      ‘Looks That Kill’
      ‘On With the Show’
      ‘Too Fast for Love’
      ‘All Bad Things’
      (Guitar Solo)
      ‘Smokin’ in the Boys’ Room’
      ‘Without You’
      ‘Saints of Los Angeles’
      ‘Anarchy in the U.K.’
‘Too Young to Fall in Love’

      ‘Live Wire’
