Last Day of May Friday Updates

  • Tomorrow when you wake up it will be June - bring on the summer music scene.
  • Get your Ian Rubbish & The Buzzards here...
  • Today would have been John Bonham's birthday.
  • Stone Temple Pilots are suing Scott Weiland for "misuse of the band's name". This situation is starting to rival the Queensryche spat.

Friday Memorial Day Weekend Updates

  • According to Scott Weiland STP cannot legally perform as such without him in the band, according to the rest of STP - well Chester Bennington has joined the fold as a current/temporary front man, noting however he is not leaving Linkin Park.
  • Christopher Lee is releasing his second metal album - and according to Saruman it is heavier than his last (which I admit I haven't really heard).
  • This is pretty cool - Google streetview of famous album covers......
  • Below is a clip featuring a portion of the Jeff Hanneman memorial yesterday:

Happy Memorial Day to all - Let's not forget what this holiday is about, to honor those who died in service to our country - a country that gives us the right to listen and speak (and dress) how we please even if you don't agree.

Ray Manzarek Dead

Ray Manzarek, founding member of The Doors and the most iconic keyboard player in the history of rock, died yesterday at 74. The Hollywood Sunset Strip nightclubs dimmed their lights at 9:31 PM last night in honor of Ray, coinciding with his time of death in Germany.

SNL Finale

It is being rumored that in addition to Bill Hader (as well as Seth Meyers) leaving, a few more of the SNL alumni will not be returning, possibly being showcased in the video below as part of SNL's season finale - a few special guests show up as well...

  • A Canadian anti piracy company (Canipre), who teams with film studios and pursues charges against bit torrent "pirates", was found to be using photos from independent photographers without permissions. Kind of ironic. I like to put entities like this in the "better than thou" crowd - and when they are found guilty of something they are championing against?!?
  • Rolling Stones released a readers poll of the worst band of the 90's - how in the world Nirvana is on there is blowing peoples minds, but the top two spots are definitely deserved....

Rolling Stone’s worst bands of the 1990s

10. Dave Matthews Band
9. Ace of Base
8. Spin Doctors
7. Bush
6. Hootie and the Blowfish
5. Nirvana
4. Hanson
3. Limp Bizkit
2. Nickelback
1. Creed

  •  A public memorial for Jeff Hanneman will be held on May 23rd at the Hollywood Palladium on a first come first serve basis for the 4,000 seat venue. AND the infamous Westboro Baptist Church is going to be there picketing - yes they fall into the "better than thou" crowd.
  • Yesterday was the third anniversary of Ronnie James Dio's death. And Wendy Dio posted this message:
"Today is a difficult day for all of us. It has been three years since Ronnie's passing. Sometimes it feels like only yesterday and sometimes it feels like an eternity ago.

"Please take a moment of silence sometime in the day to remember him on this anniversary of his death. I know you all loved him, and I thank you for keeping his music and his memory alive.

"I take comfort in this old prayer I would like to share with you.

I cannot speak, but I can listen,
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard,
I am in the song you hear,
I am in the breeze you feel...
I am in the stars you see
I am still with you.

"Peace be with all of us."

Friday Updates

  • The Rolling Stones have supposedly released their final North American tour date. They currently have 18 dates on the bill, including consecutive nights at some venues, and don't get nowhere near the southern US or Texas. Go ahead and announce the second leg guys. (They some UK dates after this tour)
  • Jeff Hanneman's official cause of death is related to cirrhosis and not from devastating spider bite he received. It was thought his health was improving in all areas but unfortunately this was not the case. Slayer plans a tribute later this year...
  • Today is the 35th anniversary of one of the greatest punk songs ever and one of my favorite of all time: Teenage Kicks.
  • As usual the tailgating for Buffet was awesome. Our seats for the show were pretty far back and the sound was terrible. The wind was playing havoc with us in the parking lot and it didn't help out the sound guys any either.
  • I am not sure about the movie itself but the TV spot for The Great Gatsby focusing on the music looks awesome. This movie is directed by Baz Luhrman and if you saw what he did with the music in Moulin Rouge and Romeo+Juliet it shouldn't be disappointing.
