Hold the Presses! Two versions of Black Flag!

Apparently two different versions of Black Flag are reforming. One is the 1979 version, prior to Henry Rollins arrival, that will do a one-off (at the moment) set at Hevy Fest in the UK appearing as Black Flag. Another version, Flag, will be reuniting performing at US shows as well. Neither of the versions features Mr. Rollins however. Welcome to the Battle of the Dueling Bands boys...

Friday Updates

  • The Flaming Lips, who have a new album coming out and are currently touring with The Black Keys, will be featured in a 60 sec. Hyundai commercial for the Superbowl. There was once a time when people groaned at musicians selling their songs to corporate behemoths for the use of advertising, however nowadays you can actually discover new music by watching such and there are entire websites devoted to helping you find out who's that background music may be.
  • The Stone Roses finally have a US date co-headling Coachella's Friday night set with Blur. Hopefully this is a sign of more to come for us in the states.
  • The Mars Volta have broke up and I don't think anyone is too happy about it....
  • And in an unprecedented event there is news on the Queensryche front. Apparentley K.K Downing will guest star on the new album.

End of the week updates

  • Freddies Rolls Royce set an auction record going for £74,000, which is almost $120,000.00 US.
  • Unfortunately Bowie will not launch any kind of major (or minor) tour following his new album release in March. Their is a lot of anticipation for the album itself however.
  • Brad Wilk will take Bill Ward's place on upcoming Sabbath album being produced by Rick Rubin-which means it could be quite a while before we hear anything.
  • Jack Russell had planned on performing an acoustic benefit concert and donating funds to the Station Fire Memorial Fund, which is the charity set up for victims of the infamous Great White club fire - but they don't want anything to do with it...
  • Major music news! Kenny Loggin's Blue Sky Riders are set to release their debut album and you can preorder on Amazon now! How this got overshadowed by upcoming releases by artists with real talent like Hendrix and Bowie I will never know.
  • I had been a staunch defender of Journey's replacement singer(s), particularly former front man Steve Augeri, until I recorded the Journey Live in Manila on Palladia the other night. I don't think I can do the same with their current format.

First official Friday after first full week of working in the new year update

  • Rigor Mortis have announced that following Mike Scaccia's death they will never play again.
  • Steve Howe has quit the "original" version of Asia. Remember there are two versions of Asia, however they get along amicably.
  • The Black Keys & Flaming Lips are touring together, there are only limited US dates announced - surely they will get down to the Oklahoma/Texas area?
  • For all you Elvis fans - Aloha From Hawaii will be re-released for it's 40th anniversary, including the dress rehearsal. Interestingly enough this is the first ever live global concert broadcast.

Comeback Updates

  • David Bowie has made a surprise comeback after 10 years of literally nothing. New album forthcoming and video here.
  • K.K. Downing has made a return to music as a promoter.
  • The Scorpions have officially called off retirement. I should have learned over the years to quit drinking the Kool Aid when bands announce their "final tour". Me and my friend thought maybe the Scorps were true to their word but obviously not.
  • At least Judas Priest clarified their situation when they toured last - they said they were done with "world tours" etc. - but didn't say they were done.
  • There is a revamped version of  Love/Hate out there as well - Well Jizzy Pearl is in it anyways.
  • In other news Dave Mustaine comes up with some crazy shit....

Welcome to 2013!

  • I gave most of my friends music related presents-and received the same back in return, pretty friggin awesome.
  • Over the holiday Tate's version of Queensrryche took another hit as Randy Gane, current keyboardist for the band, suffered a heart attack.
  • You! Yes you! can own Freddie Mercury's 74 Rolls Royce - just submit a bid.
  • You can catch Jack White on the upcoming Austin City Limits next week.
  • I got to watch the Kennedy Center Honors over the holidays, the first time I have ever viewed such, mainly because Led Zeppelin was being honored. A little commercial but pretty damn cool-they honored Bonzo in a special way as well.......
