Dave Matthews Caravan

Dave Matthews is hosting four three day music festivals in the US. All the sites are not determined at this point but there are some teases below from Pollstar and in the link:

"DMB sent out an e-mail yesterday announcing the festivals, referred to the concept as "Caravan." Under the subject header “Save The Dates,” the band specified two date spans along with general locations, listing June 24-26 as taking place in the “Northeast/Mid Atlantic and July 8-10 going down in the Midwest. The announcement only mentioned the months for two festivals happening in August and September, saying that locations are “coming soon.”"

I don't necessarily care about see DMB again but depending on who else and where the last two festivals may be, then again I don't care that much about huge music fests in the first place.

Times Top 25 Music Soundtracks

I either owned and have owned at least ten of these, including the latest on the list Garden State.

Times Top 25

No Star Wars, Rocky Horror or Wizard of Oz though???? And assuming they are not counting concert/music movies-The Last Waltz and The Wall are omitted. One of my favorite soundtracks of all time is Streets of Fire though I doubt it would make too many lists...

Random Updates

  • Queens of the Stone Age have announced their first major tour in while. They plan of playing their entire first release-no Texas dates as of yet.
  • LCD Soundsystem has extended their farewell show by 4 dates-why you may ask? Tickets were going for $1500 for their final performance at MSG.The final shows are not at the Garden though.
  • In an update to a previous post, Bad Replacement Singers, Michale Graves is currently not "working at IHOP" -he is actually fronting Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg, who's original song "When We Were Angels" gets quite a bit of airplay on Faction.
  • Rocklahoma lineups announced-Rocklahoma Unveils Dates, Lineup
  • The Grammys were on the other night-and who really gives a flying F anymore.

Flogging Molly (Again)

  • Awesome show by Flogging Molly last night. And the House of Blues is starting to surpass Nokia in Grand Prairie as my favorite venue.....we were on the rail by the 2nd or 3rd song.
  • Lee, who we met last night, has seen Flogging Molly 23 TIMES. I have seen a lot of bands but no one particular band that many times. Hats off to you and hopefully see you at the next show.
  • I don't have tickets to any upcoming shows-I am not counting that Kenny Chesney crap I am being drug to by my wife and best friend.....however there are a few interesting shows coming up, including Reverend Horton Heat this Friday.
  • Now that the tour has kicked off I will keep beating everyone down with Flogging Molly (maybe)

Random Updates

  • I have heard conflicting stories for a Stones tour. The official statement from Mick is there are no firm plans to tour. I heard rumors of a 50th (geez) anniversary tour as well, but several news site are shooting down any upcoming tour.
  • The Black Eyed Peas are playing at halftime at the Superbowl this Sunday. I like some of their music but from what little I have heard of their live performances are terrible. And they are the biggest sellouts of this current day-not that I technically agree with the term sellout, why else do people start bands anyways if not to get big. I know their are exceptions to this rule but.....
  • Billy Joel and Elton John are having a "spat"
  • This year will be Lollapalooza's 20th Anniversary. Man I hit some great festival tours back in the day-Lolla, H.O.R.D.E, Ozzfest-had tickets to Farm Aid in Dallas but it got canceled. Don't care too much about hitting the big two or three day shows like Bonaroo or ACL Music Fest but it is a great way too see a lot of bands. I would like to attend a SXSW but there is not guarantee you can get in the venue to see a band of choice (or so I have heard).
  • In non music related news we had we have had ice and snow in the DFW area this week. I know the rest of the nation is getting much more of the same but this is Texas and I am not sure this has ever happened here and lasted more that a day or two. We are going on four days of this with temperatures not expected to get above freezing until manana. And the Superbowl is Sunday in ARLINGTON.

AEG Ticketing

AEG is taking on the big boys-Ticketmaster, we definitely need the competition. I have always argued that the half filled venues I (we) sometimes attend should slash the prices for the unsold seats a few days prior to the show to get people in the venue. Once said people are in attendance revenue would go up for parking, concessions and band merchandise. Plus it makes the concert a much better experience with a full crowd present.

From the article:

"Ticketmaster has faced little head-on competition in recent years. While there is no shortage of other ticketing companies out there, none of them has had the scale and potential access to ticket inventory that AEG brings to the table. Things are about to get very interesting as Outbox represents a paradigm shift away from a centralized ticketing service like TM. Outbox gives individual venues much more control over their own ticketing and fee structure. Rosen indicated that Outbox will also compete with TM for non-AEG venues as those ticketing contracts come up for renewal."

White Stripes Done....

The White Stripes have called it quits....

White Stripes Official Statement

I am sure Jack will continue his many other projects...who knows for Meg, never heard much from her outside WS.

Good news from the web site though:

"Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings from
The White Stripes in their Vault Subscription record club, as well as through regular
channels."

Bad replacement singers

Check out this list on UGO.

Lamest Replacement Singers

Let's see, Sublime is a big CHECK, let's all remember that Rob Halford left Judas Priest becaused he wanted to do music other than Judas Priest and his (their) contract would not allow it, I have heard the current Journey singer is bad but Steve Augeri wasn't too shabby, The Misfits and Dead Kennedys should have just given it up, and guess who is #1.

Composer John Barry died Sunday

Composer John Barry, who won five Oscars for his film work but was best known for his contributions to a dozen James Bond movies, has died. He was 77.
