REVISED 6 Bands......

I have revised the list below to be more accurate and moved Pearl Jam and U2 to honorable mentions - I will listen to them, just not the stuff they play on the radio.

The bands below make me switch stations/fast forward to the next song. I am not talking the Wingers, Nickelbacks and Miley Cyrus' of the world either. King's X used to be on this list but I have actually started listening to some of their music. I could probably easily expand this list to 10 in the near future.

  • Counting Crows
  • Bonnie Raitt
  • Bush
  • Jack Johnson
  • Siouxsie & The Banshees
  • The Doobie Brothers

Honorable mentions:

New country pop crap
U2
Peal Jam

Lou Reed Dead

Apparently the punk poet passed on due to complications related to his liver transplant earlier this year after not being in good health in the recent months - he was an influence to many artists who went on to achieve more commercial success than VU or his solo work - but I don't think he really cared.

Updates

  • The Who have announced a farewell tour - in 2015. This is NOT to be confused with their 1982 farewell tour.....
  • Celebration Day has won two awards. Yes I will report on pretty much anything Zep related.
  • Ticketmaster is suing a secondary ticket retailer - who probably deserves it, however I don't won't to convict by media, which is commonplace in this country. The issue at hand is the circumvention of legal ticket buying methods, specifically the use of bots to purchase large quantities of tickets and overwhelming the ticketmaster site therefore not giving the at large public a chance at tickets. If this proves to be true Ticketmaster got it right on this one.
  • This is supposed to be a list of the sexiest album covers. I would call it a list of albums with skin, but not the sexiest. And if you are going to include Enema of the State you better include Scorpion's Animal Magnetism and Lovedrive. At least Candy-O is in there. Barbara Streisand? Really?

Friday Tidbits

Day 2 of updates - links galore......

  • Here is a fairly inclusive list of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame snubs. Eddie Trunk should read this as well as he only champions the hard rock and heavy metal genre and there are many others just as deserving. (How in the F Whitney Houston got #1 on this list is insane - no where near "Rock and Roll") - With that being said Deep Purple and Kiss are on the bill this year......
  • And check out this poll from Noisecreep for the current inductees. Funny how Nirvana is leading the way even though everyone states "Nirvana was overrated and I was never into them"......
  • Here is a pretty good point of view on Southern Rock Bands from some dude.....
  • Black Flag founder Greg Ginn lost his lawsuit against Flag.
  • Dave Stewart and Henry Rollins have new TV shows. I found Rollins 10 Things You Didn't Know About but can't find Stewart's The Ringmaster.
  • I found an outlet that sells Maiden's Trooper beer. I had to wait on the order to come in and talked them into three bottles, even though the customer limit was two. By the way the Maiden touring machine is a juggernaut. They are consistently in the upper echelon of the highest grossing tours.

Thursday Tidbits

We are going for two days of updates here....

  • Robert Plant has found lost recordings of Zeppelin that he would like to be released on a future box set - from Mr. Plant:
“I found some quarter-inch spools recently, and I had a meeting with Jimmy, and we baked them up and listened to them, and there’s some very, very interesting bits and pieces that probably will turn up on these things. I’m desperately trying to get this one track—or the two tracks of John Paul Jones singing lead. And so far he’s up to giving me 2 cars and a greenhouse not to get them on the album. Oh, John, wherever you are… you can’t wait to hear yourself singing all over the world! La la la la la la la…”

  •  Van Halen is suing.............wait for it.............Eddie Van Halen's ex wife Kelly Carter for use of the VH name for business purposes. I don't think this is going to make the dueling bands list.
  • The last day of the ACL music fest was canceled last weekend due to torrential rains, including flash flood warnings - fan safety was considered priority over continuing the festival. Austin really needs the rain at this point...

Friday Updates

  • Hawkwind have postponed their upcoming US tour due to stress related issues suffered by Dave Brock over Nik Turner attempts at registering the bands name. Statement from Hawkwind below:
"Doctors have confirmed Dave's condition is stress related, aggravated by the trademark dispute in the United States which could result in years of litigation."

  •  R.I.P former Pogues guitarist Phil Chevron. Also founding member of what is considered Ireland's first punk band - The Radiators From Space......
