Welcome Scott Weiland to the list

Scott Weiland has been "fired" from Stone Temple Pilots and is seeking legal action. And apparently Slash already knew about this and has stated that the door is closed for Velvet Revolver as well stating that Scott had been pining for a VR reunion because this had already happened. I have also updated the list below to a more current version striking out bands not currently involved in any turmoil...

Dueling Band LIst
  • Scott Weiland vs. STP
  • Black Flag vs. Flag
  • Current version of Beach Boys vs. any former Beach Boy who is not in the current version
  • Former Vandenburg members vs. Adrian Vandenberg
  • J. Geils Band vs. John Geils/Francesa Records
  •  Live vs. Ed Kowalcyzk
  • Queensryche & Geoff Tate
  • T&N and Dokken
  • Asia & Asia featuring John Payne  (This is actually an amicable relationship that is working out)
  • Jack Russel's Great White & Great White
  • Kyuss & Kyuss Lives!
  • L.A. Guns & League of Gentlemen (Looks like both parties have moved on)
  • Creedence Clearwater Revisited and John Fogerty
  • War and The Lowrider Band
  • Heaven and Hell and Black Sabbath (It's more like Sabbath vs. Bill Ward at this point)
  • Blood, Sweat and Tears and David Clayton Thomas (kind of)
  • Steppenwolf & John Kay's Steppenwolf

Complete Friday Randomness

  • Mr. Plant is teasing us I believe. In a nutshell during an interview with 60 minutes Australia Robert said he is not the one holding back the Zep reunion and he has nothing to do in 2014. Jason Bonham is like WTF....
  • There is unrest in the Slayer camp. Dave Lombardo will not be touring with the band during their Australia run. And Jeff Henneman is still unable to return due to the debilitating spider bit he received more than a year ago. (The replacement guitarist has mainly been Gary Holt of Exodus so not too shabby) Slayer has maintained a fairly consistent line up throughout the years so here's hoping to everything getting resolved. SLAYER!
  • According to the Bowie camp there might be a tour after all? Odds were stated at 50-50...
  • Tinnitus is really fucked up as it is, however how would you like to have a rare form where you hear the same song over and over. People commit suicide over this shit....
  • For some reason I have been hearing a lot of news about Don Felder lately. He is quite an accomplished and underrated musician. Not only did he pen Hotel California but his range is wide enough to have contributed  "Heavy Metal (Taking a Ride)" to the Heavy Metal movie. Actually the reason he is in the news lately is because of the current Eagles documentary playing on Showtime-looks like it needs to go in the recording queue...
  • I went from not having any concert tickets to having four shows to attend in about a month. Last weekend was Flogging Molly, next is Dropkick Murphys followed by Buffett and finally Danzig.

The only Friday update necessary...

  • Danzig is launching his 25th anniversary tour featuring a double set of material. The set will include a Danzig set followed with a Misfits set featuring Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein. Supporting acts include Corrosion of Conformity and The Agonist. I have not heard the greatest things about Danzig in concert including some of the current comments on tour announcement pages but I will take my chance.

Friday Updates

  • I am warning you now. Motley Crue is talking about their forthcoming album being their last and launching a farewell tour. Go and see if you must, I am not saying I won't be there. BUT DON'T DRINK THE KOOL AID...
  • Paul Tanner, the last surviving member of The Glen Miller Band,  has passed on to the great bandstand in the sky. I think we had a (four?) album set of "Glen Miller Gold" in the house when I was a kid-which my Mom probably still has. Interestingly enough he was a session player on  Good Vibrations for the Beach Boys.
  • Interesting article on Pollstar about the secondary ticket market suggesting that box offices should by back tickets that are on the secondary market at reduced prices for resell at full price, therefore driving up the price of the tickets on the secondary market, which in turn would make box office ticket prices more appealing. I have said it before-the venues should be willing to do what ever it takes, including giving away tickets, to ensure a full as possible show. Then reap the profits on merchandising, food and beverages and parking and give everyone their cut. Starplex does offer an slight incentive of this type with free parking at some shows. Not sure of the exact purpose of this other than that their profit margin may be higher on other items available so leaving cash in attendees pockets lets them buy more once they are inside. You want to know the ultimate solution to this scenario? Cut ticket prices across the board industry wide and make it affordable for any one to go. If any of you major venues are reading I can get you a list of my consulting fees.

Dead of WInter Updates

  • Led Zeppelin will receive yet another honor  - the Lifetime Achievement Honor from the Echo awards in Berlin. I know I talk out of two sides of my mouth when I say that music awards are not important yet post every honor Zep receives. The difference is Zeppelin is a legend and rightfully deserves such.....
  • The last of the Andrews Sisters died this week. They were the part of forefront of American music during the WWII era.
  • Tommy Aldridge has rejoined Whitesnake for a third stint. See the graphic below and click link for all the Whitesnake members as well as Coverdales other bands.
