Here we go again...

Man this is one of my pet peeves, heavy metal/hard rock music being blamed for peoples actions. What if this would have been a quote from Johnny Cash or Frank Sinatra? If this had been a quote from the Bible, he would have been cast as a religous zealot but God would not have been blamed. I doubt any such thing would have been mentioned in the media in the first place. What if the quote was from the Koran or some other non-american (I used that phrase loosely) non western based religion? Let the floodgates loose on this one. Typically the media blames something they don't understand and have never given a FAIR investigation in the first place. The whole point of metal music is an outlet for ALL emotions which people have, not a motivation for violence. Go get in a mosh pit and get knocked on your ass, the first thing you will see is a helping hand to get you up and join back in.

Below is a more fair assesment of the situation:

See that Fillmore East shirt Daltrey is wearing.....

Friday on My Mind

  • George Jones, currently on tour, will make 2013 his last touring year ever. You hear this all the time from rock bands but coming from a 74 year old country star makes it a little more believable. I saw him several years ago in a half shuttered Nokia Theater.
  • In another sign that the apocalypse is surely upon us Scott Stapp is releasing a "memoir" soon, Sinner's Creed. I could think of a thousand more titles for this book but I will be nice for now. According the Amazon description Scott is in the midst of a highly successful solo career. Did I just read and post that right?!?
  • Finally some different dueling band news, Kyuss Lives is apparently allowed to tour under this name, but not record under such.
  • From the 15 year late breaking news department, Fred Durst has announced Limp Bizkit is over.
  • When I woke up this morning I thought we might get through one Friday without a Queensryche update but Geoff Tate isn't going to allow that. Tate has announced an 2013 anniversary "all-star" tour under the moniker: Queensryche Starring Geoff Tate, The Original Voice.

Good Mourning/Black Friday

  • Earlier in the week Shazam reported it had tagged over 5,000,000 songs. Most of the time Shazam gets anything I tag-but every once in a while I can get it.
  • Geoff Tate is calling for a Queensrych summit to resolve the situation. You will be able to check it out soon on That Metal Show.
  • This is a good read - How Rock Concerts Work. I love how they start off with the mixing engineer, if he's having a bad show you're having one too. If you every question where to sit in an arena/amphitheater environment to get the best sound, sit in close proximity to the mixing boards. If you're in the upper deck on the side of the stage your just not going to get the same experience-anywhere in his/her general area will do the trick though.
  • There are so many music related deaths each week it is difficult to report on all of them. That's why I keed the RSS feed for The Music's Over at your left.
  • Hopefully by this time next Friday I will have Maiden tickets in hand....
  • The Gap is ripping off Judas Priest-see the shirt below.

Randy Travis goes TMZ

For the second time this year North Texas resident and former(?) country superstar Randy Travis has been arrested, this time for DWI-in the nude. Apparently Mr. Travis thought it would be a good idea to strip down, visit his local convenience store for some smokes, wreck his car and threaten the police who then discovered him after a 911 call was made by a passing motorist.

For Mom....

Marvin Hamlisch, acclaimed and mulitiple award winning composer, passed on Monday. Mr. Hamlisch won just about every entertainment award available as well as a Pulitzer Prize. You have probably heard his work in some movie or song in your lifetime, including James Bond & The Sting among others. I myself heard his work in one particular movie, The Goodbye Girl, which my Mom took us to see too more times than I can count.

Friday Friday Bo-Briday, Banana Fanna Fo....

Queensryche and Geoff Tate logos

  • And above we have the battling Queensryche logos.....
  • Primus has announced a tour in 3-D- along with quadraphonic sound. SMU's McFarlin Auditorium is on the bill....
  • Snoop Dog is now Snoop Lion, after channeling the spirit of Bob Marley while in Jamaica. This borders on music sacrilege.....
  • I couldn't find a way to embed this article so I will show the link and a little snippet....
Apparently people still try to voluntarily hear Nickelback. Gawker reports that Kevin Beaudette of Tupper Lake, New York fell approximately 40 feet down into the Geyser Brooks Gorge while attempting to sneak into the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on July 24 where Nickelback were performing.

The 22-year-old was fine after the fall, though probably embarrassed about how many people now know that he likes Nickelback. Luckily, Beaudette appears to have landed Slver Side Up.
