Queensryche Insanity

Apparently the release of Geoff Tate's Queensryche album was done in haste. Although Billy Sherwood was slated to remix the album some time ago this never happened so the record company released it anyway, probably to beat the Todd LaTorre's Queensryche album to the shelves. As mentioned previously and fan who has purchased can receive a free copy of the remixed version when it happens.

In response to the negative comments concerning such Geoff Tate has launched a "Best Rant" contest for those who have spoke out against the quality of the album:

“QUEENSRYCHE BEST RANT” CONTEST”
DO YOU REALLY HATE THE NEW QUEENSRYCHE FREQUENCY UNKNOWN ALBUM? HAVE YOU ALREADY BLOGGED ABOUT IT ONLINE? WELL METAL GEEKS, IF YOU GOT THE BALLS TO STAND BEHIND YOUR OPINION THEN HERE IS THE CONTEST FOR YOU – STOP HIDING BEHIND YOUR COMPUTER KEYBOARDS AND SMART PHONES AND SHOW US HOW MUCH YOU HATE IT BY SUBMITTING YOUR “VIDEO RANT” TO US VIA YOUTUBE VIDEO. The LaTorre camp has issued a rebuttle to the release concerning the cover of the album depicting the "FU" on either side of the Trirych symbol being a cheap shot (below) and basically calling the Geoff Tate version just a bunch of posers:

The former Crimson Glory singer insists Tate's album isn't the real deal. He tells KNAC.com: "I don't even acknowledge it as a Queensryche album. The guys that play on the record are not the guys that you see onstage, and aren't the guys that wrote the songs. It's a revolving door, dude, it's not Queensryche. What I'm in is Queensryche."

Pre Jimmy Buffett Friday Updates

  • I don't know if there will be any updates next Friday as I plan on being in the parking lot in Frisco with 1000's of other Parrotheads. According to many comments I have read Frisco is on of the more festive atmospheres on his tours. I may just post a few pictures of the action....
  • Last Wednesday was the Danzig w/ Doyle show at The Palladium. I hadn't ever seen Danzig but I have heard and read enough over the years to expect anything from him not showing to being spot on. All I have to say is I probably saw every aspect of what I have read - he was having trouble with his voice, but rightfully admitted so to the crowd and asked everyone to help out, which of course we all did. Due to this the set list was somewhat shortened skipping a few Danzig classics and going right into Misfits. The picture Nazis were out and Glenn had a few choice words for several individuals taking pictures toward the end of the show. All in all getting to see him with Mr. Von Frankenstein was awesome and I was glad I was there.
  • Black Sabbath have announced their North American tour and amazingly enough Dallas is not on the bill.
  • Iron Maiden's Trooper beer, previously featured in this blog, is setting record sales. Unfortunately it is not available in the US.
  • In the most confusing Queensryche update ever - due to fan complaints Geoff Tate's version is apparently remixing their latest release and offering refunds to anyone who has already bought, but it's being released his week? So how do people already have OR are they releasing versions that haven't been remixed yet?????
  • The Richie Havens Woodstock story is pretty incredible. Originally slated to be third or fourth on the opening day he was pushed to opening the show due to the fact that none of the other bands had arrived yet. After playing an almost three hour set he was out of material so he made up a song on the spot: Freedom.
  • Survivor is getting their original lead singer back! Said no one I know......
  • See you in the parking lot!

Some people's kids....

Not to sound snobby but when you get to a point that you have listened to enough music in your life to be confident about a subject the correct responses are:

1. NO - I have not heard of them (hopefully there were many such responses that didn't make Kimmell)

2. Yes I have heard of them (truthfully) but I haven't listened to their music.

3. Yes they are friggin awesome - I have (fill in the blank) do you want to hear it OR I heard (site a specific example) the other day and it sounds great.

Bleak Friday Updates

  • Tragedy struck America this week on two ends of the nation. The Boston Marathon bombings and the fertilizer plant explosion in the iconic town of West, TX have shook the nation. I have never been in the northeast but have visited the Czech stop in West more times than I can remember.
  • The UK Meat Loaf final tour is not going well with several shows being canceled due to health issues.
  • The Stone Roses set at Coachella did not go well with the majority of the crowd leaving before they hit the stage. I am not sure what promoters were thinking by putting them in the headline slot for such a huge event. The Stone Roses have a cult following in America and I am not sure they could even pull of an arena tour in the U.S. - I will certainly be in attendance if they ever make it here however.
  • In between the Main St. Arts Festival and the Untapped brewfest there is quite a bit of live music in Funkytown this weekend.
  • Want the Suicidal Tendencies Holy Grail set? It will set you back a mere $3500 on ebay.
  • For something a little more in line with your budget you can snag a "For Boston" shirt being promoted by the Dropkick Murphy's with all proceeds going to victims and families affected by the bombing. They have currently raised $100,000.00 and climbing. Better get them before they are gone....

Coachella Bootcamp

Coachella Bootcamp - watch more funny videos

$20 Friday

  • The Dallas date for Kid Rock's tour goes on sale today. All tickets for the entire tour are $20 no matter where you sit. There is a promise of reduced concession and merchandising prices as well.
  • In sort of a reverse Battle of the Dueling Bands scenario - According to Sebastian Bach only one member of the Skid Row lineup is preventing a classic lineup reunion. According the rest of Skid Row none of them want to work with him - confusing....
  • Producer Andy Johns died earlier this week - among his many credits are about half of Zep's catalog, Television's Marquee Moon and Chickenfoot's debut. There are honestly too many to mention but you can see them all here.
  • On this day, in 1954, Bill Haley recorded Rock Around the Clock. Rock & Roll would shortly explode......
  • And on this day in 2000 Metallica filed suit against Napster. The digital music age was upon us....
  • California is joining the ticket ownership battle with Assembly Bill 329. Any issue that is on the dockets of both California and Texas is big.....

Friday Updates

  • Andrew WK has been recruited to front Marky Ramones Blitzkrieg on their upcoming tour. Not sure what happened to Michael Graves, former Misifts vocalist, who was formerly fronting the band - no dates on Pollstar yet.
  • AND for your weekly Queensryche update, Geoff Tate's version has lost its producer. This thing is not going well for the Tate camp.
  • I am going to have to figure out this whole 15 years of MP3's from Amazon thing.
  • If you have ever seen the greatness of SLC Punk, there is a sequel in the works.
  • Ministry has broken up following the death of Mike Scaccia. Jourgensen has said there is no Ministry without him. The have one final album to release....
  • Died on this day and still dead- Bob Hite, lead singer of Canned Heat, Danny Rapp of Danny and the Juniors, drummer Cozey Powell, Gene Pitney, Mark St. John, one time guitarist for KISS, Jim Marshall and..........
