Eminem & Lil Wayne

were on the final SNL of this year on Dec. 18th. I was curious to exactly how they were going to sing those songs without all the cursing, but either through practice or the miracle of technology they did. I don't mind a bit of profanity in my music but it is not like you are going to pop it in on your family outing.

2011 Concerts

Cheaper concert tickets for the New Year?! I am all for it but I think it will take another year of half filled band shells and canceled shows before the industry really gets it. With the technological advances we have achieved in the last 10-20 years people are just as easily entertained at home, including watching sporting events as well.

Ridglea Theater Update

I don't think this is good or that it will work, time will tell......

REVOLVER - Fallen Heroes

Check out the latest issue of Revolver-it has an very extensive list of those we have lost recently and in the past, as you can tell by the cover-there is also a foldout poster included.  Great magazine for all types of hardcore music news as well.

Ridglea Theater

Has been sold to Jerry Shults owner of the Gas Pipe Chain.

The current death metal haven will be revamped into.... I don't know but it is not being torn down as Bank of America had planned prior to backing out of their purchase. It looks like he plans on renovating and broadening the scope of music. Nothing against the bands currently playing there but I remember seeing Flaming Lips, The Reverend and Spoonfed there among others and hope to see some of the same ilk in the future.

8 Track Museum

Trying to piece this together but apparently Bucks Burnett former manager and friend of Tiny Tim is opening the 8 Track Museum in Dallas, TX. There have been temporary exhibits previously, including Denton but a permanet home is in the works in Deep Ellum scheduled to open Dec. 25th. For music nostalgia buffs it looks like it is worth a look, check out the facebook page where it is noted that he acquired Bob Dylan's harmonica from one of his Fort Worth shows. Thanks to Gordon Keith for the heads up.

Ozzy : What the F is a Justin Bieber?

Third Stone From the Sun

Check out the link below on Cracked about Easter Eggs in famous albums.

There is an article about Jimi Hendrix's Third Stone From the Sun excerpt below:

From Cracked: "But what's even trippier about it is that if you adjust the speed of your record player to play the song like a 45 rpm vinyl (a format usually reserved for singles), you can suddenly hear two aliens talking by radio as they approach Earth. What's an alien message doing in an album about simple topics like kidnapping ladies and burning stuff? Nobody knows."

I actually found this in a different way-remember back in the day of handheld tape recorders and boom boxes? I had a double tape unit boom box and you could record from one cassette to the other. Well it just happened to have a high speed recording button so you could record from one cassette to the other in about half the time, which is probably about equivalent to a 78 rpm to 45 rpm, and you could hear it as well. Lo and behold for some reason or another I am recording Third Stone From the Sun from one cassette to the other a voila' the little alien voices mentioned above....

There are several more in the link below, including several from Radiohead and the latest Tool album, they omitted the Flaming Lips Zaireeka which is four separate discs meant to be played on four different sound systems for juxtaposed sound, link below as well.

Live Nation

I got a ten dollar coupon from Live Nation for any show. I will take whatever I can get from the Ticketmaster/Live Nation monopoly, this might even cover my service charges for one ticket. With that being said I have bought tickets through the years from other vendors and Ticketmaster definitely knows how to build an empire.......

In general....

As you can see from the first few posts I listen to all types of music and am very opinionated about such, you don't have to agree with me and I am not always right but if you enjoy music check back every once in a while. I am in the Fort Worth/Dallas area and we get a lot of shows (with the exception of a few bands who never seem to make it to the southern US). Coming soon best (and worst) concert experiences.

Judas Priest

Judas Priest has announced their final tour. I saw them on their Operation Rock and Roll tour and one of the Ozzfest's and plan on being at this one. My good friend and neighbor did not understand their greatness until he got to see them live last earlier this year-he will be in attendance as well....

Kenny Chesney

My wife and best friend are dragging me to Buffett imitator Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band at Cowboys Stadium in April. I am going to make the best of it and enjoy the scenery-all you hawt ladies out there I expect mini skirts and cowboy boots. At least I haven't been beat down by hearing Chicken Fried every five minutes lately........

SNL

Paul McCartney was on Saturday Night Live and played 4 songs-why you may say? Because he is Paul friggin' McCartney. I got to see him in the late 80's? at Texas Stadium and I am glad I did because he sounded a little rough and his band was very cheesy, but it was TV and he is Paul McCartney. When he threw in a little of Give Peace a Chance and got the audience to sing along I really didn't care....

Songs:

1. Jet
2. Band on the Run
3. A Day in the Life/Give Peace a Chance
4. Get Back (partial as credits were rolling)

The 30th anniversary of Lennon's death was just a few days ago.....

First Blog Entry!!

I got tickets to one of my favorite bands the other day-FLOGGING MOLLY. They are probably my favorite current band-current as in still actively touring and putting out albums, not current as in flavor of the month. Speaking of which they have not put out a new album since 2008's Float....I just checked the website, new album 2011- and Dallas is the first show on the bill.
