Friday Updates

  • KISS may take the mantle away from Queensryche for the dueling band title.
    • Corey Taylor, an avowed KISS fan, has questioned why these guys can't get back together just one last time to perform at their induction, for the fans, letting bygones be bygones, and then go their separate ways. Corey has a penchant for original lineups - Paul Gray's replacement wasn't allowed to play on stage during the last Slipknot tour.
    • What about Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer - what in the wide world of sports are they thinking about this whole fiasco?
    • Gene doesn't think Ace and Peter "deserve to wear the paint because the make up is earned". I think they earned that right decades ago. Ace stated that he "owns" the rights to his Spaceman persona and that he licensed it for use to KISS and the rights are due back to him soon - and of course Gene calls bullshit. They should have never let Tommy and Eric wear existing characters make up and had them make up their own characters ala Eric Carr "The Fox". (I think Vinnie Vincent wore make up for a brief period before their unmasking as well).
    • And that brings us to the TMS episode 7 (yes I am few episodes behind). Don Jamieson put it on the line - the fans (and Eddie Trunk) were part of the reason you got in and you should give them what they deserve. Mr Trunk knows this could have been avoided if KISS were inducted when they were originally eligible for such -at that time the original lineup was still together......
    • Interesting fact Eric Carr died on the same day as Freddie Mercury.
  • Christine McVie will join Fleetwood Mac for the next tour reuniting the entire Rumours era lineup. I remember when Fleetwood Mac "regrouped" (they never really broke up) and started touring again I was bound and determined to go - it was the first concert I refused to buy tickets to because of the prices. I think lawn passes were running at $75 at Starplex.
  • Unfortunately a fourth victim has died as a result of the SXSW hit and run fiasco while several people still remain hospitalized. This guy went from being charged with DWI (and possibly a stolen vehicle) to 23 counts of assault and two murder charges - and it's about to be four.
  • WTF? I found this item on This Day in Music - I had no idea:
    • 2000, Jimmy Page accepted substantial undisclosed libel damages from a magazine which claimed he had caused or contributed to the death of his Led Zeppelin bandmate John Bonham. Page's solicitor, Norman Chapman, told High Court Judge Mr Justice Morland that the feature in Ministry magazine printed in 1999 claimed Page was more concerned with keeping vomit off his bed than saving his friend's life, and that he stood over him wearing Satanist robes and performing a useless spell.

  • So the RRHOF is only "allowing" the original Kiss members to be inducted, while at the same time Nirvana's original drummer, Chad Channing,  will not be inducted. And supposedly The Grateful Dead (previously inducted) were asked which members they would like inducted. I guess you have to have some kind of stipulation regarding which members can be inducted but there is no method to the madness here.
  • Head on over to those idiots at Goldieblox where you can see the official apology to The Beastie Boys (scroll way down). Also the setllement includes the following-via COS, via The Rolling Stone:
"Rolling Stone reports that the settlement includes a payment by GoldieBlox, “based on a percentage of its revenues, to one or more charities selected by Beastie Boys that support science, technology, engineering and mathematics education for girls.”

  • Longview, TX has paid The Motor City Madman NOT to perform at their 4th of July concert. But not everyone agrees....
  • Wu-Tang Clan cannot seem to get their anniversary album released due to what I will cite as "creative differences" - welcome to the Battle of the Dueling Bands!!!
  • There is a crowd funding campaign to acquire Kurt Cobain's childhood home and turn it in to a museum. It isn't going well so far with only $795.00 of the requested $700,000.00 in donations received. Usually the pattern is a very high amount of contributions early on and then everyone latches on from there - maybe the word isn't out yet....
  • Interesting read of 13 Bands That Have Destroyed Their Legacy. Weezer and The Grateful Dead - really?? And they listed the wrong reason on Metallica - it wasn't Napster, it was Load and Re-Load that "destroyed" their legacy.
  • Well in the last week I made one show I had no plans on attending and missed another that I had tickets in hand for.....

Extremely Random Updates

  • I just recently discover this tidbit in the last few months. The strange case of Iron Butterfly's Philip Taylor Kramer. Ranker article here
  • This from a few weeks ago concerning the family battle over Casey Kasem's estate. Casey is not doing well suffering from Parkinson's and in ill health - I remember many a weekend tuning in to America's Top 10 in those glorious days of my youth.....
  • The deluxe package remasters of Zeppelin I, II, III, due for release in June, will set you back about $120.00 (each) on Amazon - at least it qualifies for free shipping.
  • Im what almost made the dueling bands list, a scammer attempted a false lawsuit on behalf of deceased drummer Eric Carr's family. Carr's family has requested the attorney to cease and desist.
  • And below you have a clip from Nirvana's last performance ever and Jimmy Kimmell screwing with music idiots at SXSW - I wonder what these people think when they see themselves on here.

Tragedy at SXSW

Apparently an (alleged)  drunk driver evading police drove through barricades onto Red River St. where fans were waiting to attend a show at the Mohawk bar. Two people were instantly killed after begin struck on their moped and five others are in critical condition with 23 total people hospitalized. If the above allegations are true I hope justice is served......

Long overdue updates.....

  • And of course we will lead off with some Queensyche news. According to some of the earlier airings of this season's 'That Metal Show' the naming dispute has been resolved in court and all that is left is to financial compensation and loose ends. According to TMS Geoff will retain the Queensryche name.....
  • So KISS have been elected to the R&R HOF, been criticized for not letting Ace and Peter contribute (which may or may not be true), and have in turn canceled any performances related to such.
  • In a sad state of affairs Bob Casale had no life insurance or will and apparently not much in the way of financial incentives. You can donate to his family to help pay for funeral and medical expenses if you so desire here.
  • And at the site of the former greatness of the now defunct Reunion Arena - March Madness Music Festival - a free 3 day music fest headlined the final night by The Boss himself. It is going to be madness alright - entry is free on a first come first served basis - standing room only. The field you could be standing in is below......
