A slew of Wednesday Updates

  • Tomorrow the public memorial for Lou Reed will take place in NYC. Man there is some musical history in that city - I am sure the facility will be packed - at the Lincoln Center from 1-4PM.
  • In a sign on my own personal musical hell Dave Grohl will be producing the next Zac Brown album - speaking of which that should be the #7 band on my list of bands that make me turn the radio.
  • In un-exciting music news Boy George is reforming Culture Club! They had some catchy tunes at the time.....
  • Somehow both Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly have 2014 dates at the HOB without me even noticing. Tickets will be in hand soon however.
  • If you are a fan of American Horror Story Stevie Knicks will be making a guest appearance. If you are not familiar every season AHS is a completely different story with no relation to the previous season - and this season's them is witches.
  • Robert Plant is launching a eight week web series about his foray in 2003 into Mali and the Festival in the Desert - haven't had a chance to watch yet but the first episode is up now with followups every Monday.
  • I am not even sure what to make of something like this but the NMPA is threatening to shut down fifty musical lyrics sites for copyright infringement for not obtaining licenses to publish the lyrics. Are you fucking kidding me - another lame attempt by the music industry to recoup losses for not being able to compete in a digital age? However David Lowery, frontman for Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven, has an argument for the situation stating some of these sites are making a good amount of money through advertising - and apparently they have already successfully won a lawsuit or two against a couple of such entities.
