Friday Updates

  • I am warning you now. Motley Crue is talking about their forthcoming album being their last and launching a farewell tour. Go and see if you must, I am not saying I won't be there. BUT DON'T DRINK THE KOOL AID...
  • Paul Tanner, the last surviving member of The Glen Miller Band,  has passed on to the great bandstand in the sky. I think we had a (four?) album set of "Glen Miller Gold" in the house when I was a kid-which my Mom probably still has. Interestingly enough he was a session player on  Good Vibrations for the Beach Boys.
  • Interesting article on Pollstar about the secondary ticket market suggesting that box offices should by back tickets that are on the secondary market at reduced prices for resell at full price, therefore driving up the price of the tickets on the secondary market, which in turn would make box office ticket prices more appealing. I have said it before-the venues should be willing to do what ever it takes, including giving away tickets, to ensure a full as possible show. Then reap the profits on merchandising, food and beverages and parking and give everyone their cut. Starplex does offer an slight incentive of this type with free parking at some shows. Not sure of the exact purpose of this other than that their profit margin may be higher on other items available so leaving cash in attendees pockets lets them buy more once they are inside. You want to know the ultimate solution to this scenario? Cut ticket prices across the board industry wide and make it affordable for any one to go. If any of you major venues are reading I can get you a list of my consulting fees.
