Friday Musings

  • There are a lot of good music magazines out there, they are just not published in the states. You can get them by subscription though.
  • Fuse will stream select parts of Metallica's Orion fest this weekend, including a recently confirmed performance by Modest Mouse. This link covers it in a nutshell and leads you to other Fuse links.
  • In the wake of the stage collapse and the tragic death of Scott Johnson, Radiohead has postponed their upcoming European dates. Their lighting system and backline were severely damaged as part of the accident in addition to dealing with the death of their drum tech.
  • The current Maiden tour has kicked off and the set list looks pretty freaking awesome: Moonchild, Can I Play With Madness, The Prisoner, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, The Trooper, The Number of the Beast, Phantom of the Opera, Run to the Hills, Wasted Years, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, The Clairvoyant, Fear of the Dark, Iron Maiden, Aces High, The Evil That Men Do and Running Free. Unfortunately Alice Cooper will not be on the bill in Dallas-I have noticed that Maiden likes to end their US tours in the Texas area. The Dallas date is the second to last on the itinerary, followed by Houston.
  • Queensryche and Geoff Tate have officially parted ways, I am just not sure if they will perform as Queensryche or Rising West?

Another Stage Collapse

This is a few days old but I reported on all similar incidents last year-there has been another stage collapse resulting in a death, this time being Radiohead's drum tech, Scott Johnson. Luckily, and I use that word hesitantly, this was before the show during setup and the crowd had not arrived as of yet-there are rumors that ZZ Top refused to play here recently for some of the same reasons but that information is skeptical. This has become too common of an incident in the last year or two-organizers, promoters, stage companies and bands must find a common solution to this problem before it happens again. I have posted the Google news feed below as the links are too numerous to list:

Riot Fest is coming to Dallas

Riot Fest has expanded to five cities-Although not as eclectic as Chicago's 3 day lineup not too bad of a lineup for Big D if this type of music is your ilk. Dilemma-Adam Ant is the night before, at least it is on a weekend.

Friday Odds & Sods

  • The Melvins are attempting to set a world record by playing 50 states in 51 days.
  • The Flaming Lips are attempting to set a world record by playing the most concerts in 24 hours.
  • Jackyl and Jay-Z have been involved in such attempts too.
  • Yesterday was my son's birthday, which also is also the date for the first Blind Faith concert in 1969-the year I was born. Blind Faith's last concert in the continental US was on Aug. 23rd, 1969-the day I was born. They played on more show in Hawaii and it was their last concert ever-so damn close..........

Miscellania

  • A lot of new releases get streamed nowadays-check out ZZ Top here and Fear Factory here.
  • Don't wear a Slash shirt to a Guns N Roses show-another reason why they will never get back together. I don't critique Axl too much but this is way overboard-friggin crybaby.
  • And finally check out Rockstar's Yearbook Photos's courtesy of The Chive. Vince and Wes could pass for twins and check out that photo Danzig...
